OK EG
OK EG is the multidisciplinary music project of Naarm / Melbourne based artists Lauren Squire and Matthew Wilson. The duo’s inimitable sound and live performance style is an expression of their dedication to innovation, creative exploration and an unwavering commitment to the underground arts community.
Following a string of cult releases on labels like Midgar, Kalahari Oyster Cult and Animalia, OK EG have emerged as one of the most exciting voices in techno today. This voice speaks most boldly to audiences within the immersive environment of their hypnotic live shows. These constantly evolving performances demonstrate the endless possibilities hardware based synthesis has to offer, and the adroit command that OK EG have of their instruments. Combined with an infectious on-stage energy, OK EG live embodies the power of collective experience and the role of music within it.
OK EG’s expansive sound is deep and diverse. Their compositions display a sonic range that oscillates between delicate, textural soundscapes and spiralling, mesmeric, mind-trip techno. Their work exhibits a profound understanding of sound design - every element in its place, with space and minimalism utilised for maximum impact. The breadth of their practice also demonstrates a sense of deep introspection of two minds that triangulates and intertwines with inspiration from the stark and beautiful landscapes of Australia.
Their newest offering ‘Heatwave’ is a powerful example - a rave-ready record punctuated by their characteristic polyrhythmic workouts, deservedly finding a home on internationally revered Berlin-based techno label Midgar. Their recent LP ‘Rivulets’, released on iconic Dutch dance imprint Kalahari Oyster Cult, presents a kaleidoscopic exploration of contemporary techno and bass music. OK EG’s growing international acclaim blooms upon a solid foundation of respect and admiration in their local field, with exceptional releases also found on cult local labels Animalia, Wax’o Paradiso and Steeplejack.
OK EG’s forward-thinking approach to live techno continues to expand, rewarding deep listeners, igniting ecstatic dancers and fostering community connections.
